Jennifer Hudson Stuns In NEW Aretha Franklin Biopic (Sneak Peak)
Former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson is transformed into the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in the first look at upcoming biopic Respect.
In the clip we hear Hudson's incredible vocals as she belts out Franklin's signature anthem Respect while dressed in a gold, sparkling gown.
Hudson was first announced for the role in January 2018, with Franklin herself hand-picking the actress. Franklin was also involved in the biopic's development until her death last August.
The film will follow Franklin's career from her beginning singing as a child in her father's church's choir in Detroit to international superstardom.
Starring alongside Hudson are Forest Whitaker as her father C. L. Franklin, Audra McDonald as her mother Barbara Siggers Franklin and Marlon Wayans as her former manager and husband Ted White.
The cast also includes Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
Meanwhile Hudson can currently be seen in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's musical Cats, which is getting a clawing from critics.
The film, which currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 20% has been described as "baffling, weird and horrifying", and that's just by us.
Respect is scheduled for release in August 2020. Cats arrives in cinemas today.
